Frost heaves

A frost heave is the uplift of water-saturated soil due to an expansion caused by freezing. Frost heaves are a common driveway problem during the winter. It occurs when water seeps below the driveway and freezes then expands. The expansion causes the pavement to shift and lifts upwards and creates a bubble-shaped surface on your driveway. Frost heaves can cause driveways to crack and aren’t safe for cars or people. One way you can prevent frost heaves from occurring is to keep standing water off of your driveway.
